A 17-year-old student was allegedly murdered by a group of youths following a dispute linked to social media reels in Prem Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Udhyog Nagar Police Station. The attack occurred late on Tuesday night when the victim was returning home from a wedding ceremony.
The deceased, identified as Shubham Sain, was a Class 11 student and a resident of Jaga Basti in Prem Nagar. According to police officials, the incident took place around 11 pm near the Choth Mata Temple, where two to three youths allegedly intercepted him and launched a violent assault.
Investigators said the attackers used iron rods and a knife during the attack. Shubham sustained severe injuries, including deep wounds to his stomach. Due to heavy bleeding, he collapsed at the scene before he could receive immediate help.
Local residents rushed the injured teenager to the New Medical College Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival. Jitendra Singh, Circle Inspector of Udhyog Nagar, confirmed that the fatal injuries caused extensive bleeding, which led to his death.
Family members have alleged that the attack may have been triggered by resentment over Shubham’s growing popularity on social media. According to his relatives, the teenager frequently posted short videos and reels online, many of which gained significant attention and were widely shared.
His cousin claimed that some individuals in the area had become hostile because of the popularity of his content. The family believes that jealousy or rivalry related to these social media posts may have escalated into violence.
Based on a complaint filed by Shubham’s family, police have registered a murder case against two suspects identified as Vishal and Raj Baccha. Authorities said both accused fled immediately after the attack and are currently absconding.
Police officials said preliminary findings suggest there may have been an ongoing rivalry between the victim and the accused related to the videos he posted online. However, investigators are continuing to examine all possible motives to determine the exact circumstances behind the dispute.
After the completion of a post-mortem examination on Wednesday morning, the victim’s body was handed over to his family. Police teams are continuing search operations to locate the accused while the investigation remains ongoing.
