A shocking triple murder occurred in Odisha when an elderly man allegedly killed three members of his family with a hammer following a long-standing domestic dispute. The incident took place in the Deogarh district, police said.
The accused, identified as Ramesh, is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol when the attack took place late on Wednesday night. According to investigators, he allegedly assaulted his wife, daughter-in-law and young granddaughter inside their home before fleeing the scene immediately after the crime.
The killings were discovered when Ramesh’s son returned home and found the bodies of the three victims. Shocked by the scene, he quickly informed the local police, prompting authorities to rush to the house and begin an investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest the attack was the result of a long-running family dispute. In what police believe was a sudden outburst of rage, the accused allegedly used a hammer to repeatedly strike the three victims, causing their deaths.
Officials said the assault occurred at around 11 pm. After receiving information about the incident, a police team reached the location and secured the area while recording statements from family members and nearby residents.
Investigators are currently questioning neighbours and villagers to reconstruct the sequence of events and understand the circumstances that led to the killings. Police confirmed that a formal complaint has been filed by a family member.
Authorities also stated that the suspected weapon used in the crime was a hammer. A forensic team is expected to examine the crime scene to gather evidence that may help confirm the details of the attack.
Police have registered a case and launched a search operation to locate and arrest the accused. Efforts are ongoing to trace his whereabouts as the investigation continues.
