A Karnataka official hangs himself after accusing his boss of harassing and aiding and abetting

A senior अधिकारी from Karnataka’s Social Welfare Department has been booked in connection with the death of a fellow अधिकारी in Tumkuru district, after allegations of harassment surfaced through a recorded video.

Mallikarjunaiah GE, who was serving as an Assistant Director in the department, was found dead in his office in Tumkuru on Saturday. Before his death, he had recorded a video in which he accused Joint Director Krishnappa of harassing him and held him responsible for his decision to take his own life.

In the video message, Mallikarjunaiah expressed distress over his personal and professional situation, stating that he was unable to support his mother, wife, and children. He described Krishnappa as a source of continuous trouble but also urged his family not to seek revenge, adding that justice would be delivered by both God and the law.

Following the incident, police registered a case against Krishnappa under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to abetment of suicide.

According to police officials, Mallikarjunaiah—who was scheduled to retire in March—had been under stress due to an ongoing departmental enquiry that was initiated after a report published in a local newspaper. Authorities have begun a detailed investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to his death.

As of now, the Social Welfare Department has not released any official statement regarding the matter.
