A disturbing crime in Visakhapatnam has left the city shaken, after a 30-year-old Indian Navy technician was arrested for allegedly killing his partner, dismembering her body, and attempting to conceal the evidence inside his rented flat.
The accused, Chintada Ravindra, who was posted at INS Dega, had been living in Gajuwaka for nearly two years. On March 29, he called 28-year-old Polipalli Mounika to his residence. The two had known each other since 2021, having met through a dating application, and had maintained a relationship over time.
According to police, an argument broke out shortly after she arrived. The dispute reportedly involved allegations that Mounika had taken ₹3.5 lakh from Ravindra and was threatening to reveal their relationship to his wife. The confrontation escalated, and Ravindra is suspected of having killed her by suffocation.
Investigators said the case took a more disturbing turn after the killing. Ravindra had allegedly made preparations in advance, including attempting to purchase knives locally before eventually ordering them online. He then dismembered the body into three parts in an effort to destroy evidence.
Police stated that one portion of the body was placed inside a refrigerator, another was packed into a sack and hidden under the bed, and the remaining parts, including the head and hands, were taken to a secluded area near Adavivaram and burned.
At the time of the incident, Ravindra’s wife was away at her parental home after childbirth, leaving him alone in the flat. Neighbours later reported that nothing unusual was noticed from outside, and the crime remained concealed for several hours.
The case came to light when Ravindra contacted a friend after the incident. Acting on the friend’s advice, he went to the Gajuwaka Police Station and surrendered, confessing to the crime. Police subsequently searched the flat and recovered the remains, along with other evidence.
Authorities have confirmed that Ravindra has been arrested, and a detailed investigation is ongoing to establish the full sequence of events.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the circumstances leading to the crime and the actions that followed, leaving both investigators and the local community deeply unsettled.
