A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur was assaulted by members of a woman’s family after he was accused of molesting her during a movie screening at a local theatre.
According to reports, the woman had gone to watch a film with her family when the accused, who was seated beside her, allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately, taking advantage of the darkness inside the cinema hall. She immediately raised an alarm, drawing attention to the incident and helping identify the man.
After the screening ended, the woman’s father spotted the accused outside the theatre and confronted him. He then began physically attacking the man, and was soon joined by other family members as well as some bystanders present at the location.
Police were alerted shortly after the incident and reached the scene promptly. They intervened, rescued the accused from the assault, and took him into custody.
Based on a written complaint filed by the woman’s father, a case is being registered under relevant legal provisions. Police officials stated that strict action will be taken and emphasised that any threat to women’s safety will not be tolerated.
The accused remains in custody, and further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
