After a passenger on Vande Bharat discovered worms in their food, IRCTC fined them Rs 10 lakh

In another video, railway officials were seen arriving at the passenger’s seat to investigate the complaint. Using a torch, they carefully examined the curd while the passenger pointed out worms moving on the tray. The footage also showed the rest of the meal placed alongside it.

The incident drew the attention of fellow passengers, many of whom gathered around during the inspection. Some demanded a complaint book from authorities, while others encouraged the passenger to share the video online to highlight the issue.

Following the viral videos and public backlash, the Ministry of Railways responded on X, stating that the matter had been taken seriously.

The complaint pertained to food served on train number 21896, the Patna - Tatanagar Vande Bharat Express, on March 15, 2026. The ministry said that Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation had been fined Rs 10 lakh, while the service provider was penalised Rs 50 lakh and its contract terminated. It added that passenger safety and food quality remain top priorities.

The passenger who raised the issue, Ritesh Kumar Singh, is a content creator based in Patna, with around 1.19K subscribers on YouTube.
