As the government keeps an eye on the Middle East crisis, more than 52,000 Indians were evacuated from the Gulf

The Government of India is closely tracking the evolving situation across West Asia and the Gulf region to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens present there. The focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian nationals who are currently stranded, particularly those in transit or on short-term visits, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Indian citizens in the affected region have been advised to strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities as well as travel and safety advisories released by Indian diplomatic missions. Indian Embassies and Consulates in the region have activated round-the-clock helplines to respond to concerns related to the situation. In addition, the Ministry has established a dedicated Special Control Room to handle queries and provide assistance to affected individuals and their families. Contact details and helpline information have been made available on the Ministry’s official website.

With the partial reopening of regional airspace in recent days, both Indian and international airlines have resumed commercial services, including special and non-scheduled flights. These operations have enabled the safe return of thousands of stranded passengers. Between March 1 and March 7, 2026, more than 52,000 Indian nationals returned from Gulf countries, including 32,107 passengers who travelled on Indian carriers. Authorities indicated that additional flights are scheduled in the coming days to facilitate further evacuations and travel needs.

In locations where commercial flight services are still unavailable, Indian nationals have been advised to stay in contact with their nearest Embassy or Consulate to receive guidance regarding alternative travel arrangements and the closest available departure points.

The Ministry reiterated that the protection and welfare of Indian citizens abroad remain a top priority. It confirmed that Indian authorities are maintaining continuous engagement with governments across the region to coordinate support measures and ensure timely assistance wherever required.
