Bahraini Telugu tourists' SOS to PM Modi: No cash or medication

A group of tourists from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who are stranded in Bahrain have issued an urgent plea to the Government of India and their state authorities, saying they are caught in a “very dangerous situation” after unrest and reported missile and bomb incidents disrupted operations at the airport.

In a video shared online, one of the men said the group had travelled from Hyderabad on February 24 on tourist visas and planned to return after four days. However, when they reached the airport for their flight back, chaos broke out.

“We came here on the 24th from Hyderabad. After four days, when we were standing in the check-in line to return, bombs and missiles were dropped and the counters were shut,” he said, adding that they did not receive adequate assistance from the Indian embassy.

Elderly members without medicines

The group said several elderly travellers are with them and are unable to access essential medicines.

“We have elderly people with diabetes and BP. Medicines are not being given without prescriptions,” the man said. He added that many of them are staying together in a small two-bedroom apartment and relying on help from local Telugu residents for food.

Another woman in the video said they had exhausted their funds and were struggling to manage daily expenses. She appealed to authorities to arrange their return to India as soon as possible.

A second woman said their families back home were extremely worried and were pleading for their safe return.

Appeal for evacuation

A 73-year-old member of the group said he had run out of his medication and was unable to buy more without a prescription. He urged authorities to help him return home quickly.

The stranded tourists directly appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to arrange their evacuation.

So far, there has been no official response from the central government or the two state governments regarding any evacuation plan.
