During raids in three districts, the West Bengal STF confiscates drugs valued at Rs 4.79 crore

The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has stepped up its efforts against drug trafficking networks, carrying out a series of coordinated operations across several districts that resulted in the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 4.79 crore. The raids were conducted in different parts of the state, including Murshidabad, Rajarhat, and Siliguri, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects and the disruption of significant drug supply chains operating in the region.

According to police officials, the operations were part of a broader strategy aimed at tightening enforcement against narcotics trafficking routes that frequently pass through West Bengal. Authorities believe that the state’s geographic position makes it a convenient transit corridor for organised drug smugglers moving illegal substances across different parts of the country.

One of the major developments occurred in Murshidabad district, where police in Berhampore acted on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of illegal narcotics. During the operation, officers seized around 554 grams of opium. Three individuals identified as Anarul Sk, Nasiruddin, and Sahabuddin Sk were arrested in connection with the case. Investigators said that the arrests helped dismantle a local distribution network that had been operating in the area and was suspected of supplying drugs to smaller dealers.

In another significant raid carried out in Rajarhat, law enforcement officials intercepted a transport vehicle that was suspected of carrying illegal contraband. Upon inspection, the authorities recovered approximately 231.64 kilograms of ganja from the vehicle. Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, Rejjak Mia, along with another individual identified as Prosenjit Majumdar, who was believed to be associated with the consignment.

Officials noted that the large quantity of cannabis recovered during the operation indicates the involvement of an organised smuggling network. Investigators suspect that the group may have been using transportation routes connecting northern and southern parts of the state to move drugs across district boundaries and possibly beyond.

A third operation carried out in Siliguri led to the recovery of 1.224 kilograms of brown sugar, a highly addictive and illegal narcotic substance. During this raid, STF personnel arrested two suspects identified as Saddam Hossain and Rojina Bibi, who is also known by the name Sebina. Authorities believe the seizure may be linked to a broader trafficking network operating in the region.

Police officials confirmed that all the individuals arrested in connection with these cases are being prosecuted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The stringent law is designed to combat drug trafficking and the illegal trade of narcotic substances across the country.

Following the seizures, investigators have begun examining financial records and transactions associated with the accused individuals. Authorities are also attempting to trace possible connections between the suspects and larger drug trafficking syndicates that may be operating beyond the immediate areas where the raids were conducted.

Officials stated that these recent seizures represent a significant step toward curbing the circulation of illegal drugs in West Bengal. Given the state’s strategic location, which often places it along important trafficking routes, law enforcement agencies believe that continued vigilance and sustained operations are necessary to dismantle organised drug networks and reduce the spread of narcotics in the region.
