Speaking ahead of the new season in Ahmedabad, the India Test and ODI captain emphasised his consistent performances in the IPL over the years, stating that his focus remains on continuing his form rather than silencing critics. He pointed out that he has been among the top run-scorers in recent seasons and believes his contributions speak for themselves.
Gill, who leads Gujarat Titans, said his priority is to help his team maintain consistency and push for the title. He added that both his individual performances and the team’s results over the past few years give him confidence going into the tournament.
Although he was once seen as a key part of India’s T20 setup, Gill struggled to cement his place, especially with competition from players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, who impressed during the World Cup campaign. His strike rate and lack of big scores in T20Is led to his omission from both the World Cup squad and the subsequent series against New Zealand.
Despite this setback, Gill highlighted his strong IPL record, including a standout 2025 season where he scored 650 runs at an improved strike rate. With that form behind him, he remains focused on delivering for Gujarat Titans rather than viewing IPL 2026 as a comeback platform.
