A fatal road accident in Jharkhand’s Latehar district claimed three lives and left four others seriously injured after two motorcycles collided head-on on Saturday evening. Police stated that the impact of the collision was extremely severe, resulting in critical injuries to all seven individuals involved.
The accident occurred near Barwatoli village under the Herhanj police station limits. According to officials, the victims were returning home after attending a Sarhul procession when their motorcycle crashed into another bike coming from the opposite direction.
Among those who lost their lives were two brothers, Mannu Bhuiyan (20) and Gulab Bhuiyan (22), residents of Tasu village in the Herhanj area, along with Mohan Ganjhu (22). Following the incident, police and emergency services rushed to the spot and transported the injured to the Community Health Centre in Balumath. However, doctors declared three of them dead upon arrival, while the remaining four are currently undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge Krishna Pal Singh confirmed that immediate action was taken after receiving information about the accident, ensuring that the victims were quickly shifted to the hospital. Medical officer Dr. Surendra Kumar also stated that three victims had already succumbed to their injuries before reaching medical care.
The injured have been identified as Vikas Bhuiyan, Ranjit Bhuiyan, Kamlesh Ganjhu, and Shanti Devi. Their condition remains critical, with two of them being referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for advanced treatment.
Police officials noted that none of the victims were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, which likely contributed to the severity of the injuries and fatalities.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Latehar Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination, and both motorcycles involved in the crash have been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident in the same district, an auto-rickshaw driver lost his life, and three others were injured when their vehicle collided with a pick-up van in the Chandwa police station area. The injured from that incident are also receiving medical treatment.
