Monday will be hot and dry in North India; a cool dawn will provide some relief

India is expected to witness an unusual change in weather conditions tomorrow as cold north-westerly winds combine with steadily rising daytime temperatures.

Mornings are likely to feel briefly pleasant, but the afternoon heat is set to intensify across several regions.

Will mornings be pleasant in March?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that dry and cold north-westerly winds are strengthening.

Weather expert Devendra Tripathi, founder of Mausam Tak and a vlogger for Kisan Tak, said these winds will help clear the atmosphere and may lead to a slight drop in morning temperatures in many states and cities.

This cooler effect is expected in places such as Nagpur, Patna, Varanasi, Lucknow and Gwalior, offering a comfortable start to the day.

How hot will it get during the day?

Despite the mild mornings, daytime temperatures are projected to climb. The IMD has warned that maximum temperatures may remain four to seven degrees Celsius above normal across large parts of Northwest India over the next five days.

Tripathi noted that wind speeds between 20 and 25 kilometres per hour are expected from Punjab to parts of Bihar. He also expressed concern over the early March temperature levels, saying the rising heat at this time of year is becoming worrying for many people.

Is rain expected anywhere?

The weather office has forecast isolated light rain or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir between March 4 and 7 due to a weak Western Disturbance.

For Monday, March 2, conditions are expected to stay largely dry across most of the country, including the plains of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.

However, light rainfall may occur in isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Tripathi added that although the Western Disturbance is weak, cloud cover could appear over border districts of Rajasthan and Punjab, as well as coastal parts of Odisha and Kerala.
