Scenes reminiscent of Sholay in Bihar: a lady climbs a cellphone tower to demand her lover's release

A tense situation unfolded in Bihar’s Gopalganj district on Friday when a woman climbed a mobile tower to demand the release of her boyfriend, creating panic in the area. The standoff ended only after police brought the detained man to the site, following which the woman agreed to come down safely. A video of the incident from Bankata Jagirdari village later spread widely on social media.

Both the woman and her boyfriend, identified as Pawan Chauhan, are residents of Bankata Mal village in the district. According to officials, the woman had gone missing on Thursday, prompting her family to file a complaint after they were unable to locate her. Acting on suspicion, police detained Pawan Chauhan for questioning, suspecting possible involvement in her disappearance.

After learning about her boyfriend’s detention, the woman climbed a mobile tower in protest the following day, drawing a large crowd and triggering a police response. Officers reached the scene and engaged in negotiations to bring her down safely.

In an official statement, Gopalganj Police said the woman had threatened to jump from the tower in an apparent suicide attempt. However, authorities managed to persuade her to abandon the step. Police added that further legal action in the matter is underway.
