A potentially violent attack over a small debt was averted in Gujarat’s Surat after police intervened just in time, leading to the arrest of six men and the detention of two minors. The dramatic incident, captured on CCTV, unfolded in the Godadara area and has since drawn widespread attention.
The मामला began with a dispute over ₹1,000 borrowed by 19-year-old labourer Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary. According to police, when Sachin expressed his inability to repay the amount immediately, he was allegedly threatened with death by one of the accused, Deepak, along with his associates. Alarmed by the threats, Sachin approached the police, prompting swift action.
Acting on his complaint, police deployed personnel in civilian clothes in the locality. Later that evening, a group of youths arrived on three motorcycles, allegedly armed with sharp weapons and intending to attack Sachin. However, officers intercepted them as they reached the area, preventing the assault.
During the operation, one of the suspects attempted to flee, but a policeman managed to grab the pillion rider, causing the motorcycle to lift at the front and halt. Although a few suspects initially escaped, they were quickly brought back and taken into custody.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Manish alias Kaliya Gupta, Priyesh alias Sahul Dubey, Deepak Yadav, Amit alias Bidi Yadav, Prakash alias Vicky Soni, and Abhishek alias Bacchi Yadav. Police said the accused, who are originally from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, work as labourers in Surat’s textile and diamond sectors and have prior criminal records.
Authorities recovered eight knives from the group, indicating the seriousness of the planned attack. A case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to unlawful assembly, assault, and possession of deadly weapons.
The timely intervention by the police not only prevented a possible violent incident but has also been widely appreciated after the footage of the कार्रवाई circulated on social media.
