A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, where a minor girl lost her life after being brutally assaulted by her father over a suspicion of stealing a packet of toffees.
The incident occurred on Thursday in Ratanpur village under the Narora area. The 12-year-old victim, Pooja, reportedly came under suspicion after a local shopkeeper informed her father, Pushpendra, that she had taken a packet of toffees without making payment.
According to the complaint lodged by her mother, Aarti, the accused—who is said to be addicted to alcohol—returned home later that evening and, in a fit of rage, began beating the child with a wooden stick. Despite repeated attempts by the mother to stop the assault, she was allegedly pushed aside while the violence continued.
During the attack, the girl sustained multiple severe injuries, including a serious head injury that rendered her unconscious. Instead of seeking immediate medical help, the father allegedly kept her inside the house in a critical condition and later fled the scene, reportedly locking the mother inside.
After hearing her cries, neighbours gathered at the house, rescued the girl, and rushed her to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination later revealed 10 to 12 injury marks across her body, including a fractured skull, indicating the intensity of the assault.
Police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are currently searching for the accused, who remains absconding.
In another similarly disturbing case reported recently from Maharashtra’s Sangli district, a father allegedly subjected his two minor daughters to severe torture over suspicion of theft. The accused, identified as Dadu Haibat Yamgar, is said to have tied his daughters—10-year-old Sanika and 11-year-old Anuja—and hung them upside down inside their home. The girls were reportedly left in that condition overnight without water, crying in distress, until their grandfather intervened the following morning. By that time, Sanika had died, while Anuja, who was taken to the hospital and later regained consciousness, described the ordeal to doctors, leading to the registration of a police complaint.
