Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expanded his Cabinet by inducting five new ministers, taking the total strength to the full capacity of 12 members. The reshuffle reflects the BJP’s strategic effort to balance caste and regional representation in Uttarakhand as it prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The new composition aims to accommodate key social groups, with representation from the Thakur, Dalit, Brahmin, and Punjabi communities. Regionally, the Cabinet now includes members from Garhwal, Kumaon, and the plains, indicating an attempt to maintain a broader geographical balance across the state.
Among the new inductees, Khajan Das, an MLA from Rajpur in Dehradun, represents the Dalit community and brings prior ministerial experience. Bharat Singh Chaudhary, a senior leader from Rudraprayag, belongs to the Thakur community and is known for his academic and linguistic background. Ram Singh Kaida, MLA from Bhimtal, has had a diverse political journey, having started with the Congress before winning as an Independent and later joining the BJP.
Madan Kaushik, a seasoned leader and five-time MLA from Haridwar, represents the Brahmin community and has previously held key positions, including heading the BJP’s state unit. Pradeep Batra, a three-time MLA from Roorkee with a business background, also joined the BJP after initially being elected on a Congress ticket.
The expansion underscores the party’s focus on consolidating its political base by incorporating experienced leaders and ensuring representation across communities and regions, positioning itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
