Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a conversation with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during which he extended advance Eid greetings and discussed the evolving situation in West Asia amid rising regional tensions.
In a post on X, Modi said he had spoken with the UAE leader and conveyed his greetings ahead of the festival. Alongside the exchange of wishes, the two leaders also reviewed the current security situation in the region, which has been affected by ongoing conflict and recent attacks.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister strongly condemned the recent attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives and caused damage to civilian infrastructure. He reiterated India’s clear and consistent position opposing such acts of violence and emphasised the need to protect civilian areas from conflict-related harm.
Both leaders also highlighted the importance of maintaining safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas supplies is transported. Ensuring the security of this maritime corridor was identified as a key priority amid the ongoing tensions.
The conversation also reflected a shared commitment between India and the UAE to work together toward restoring stability in the region. Modi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed agreed on the importance of continued cooperation to promote peace, security, and normalcy in West Asia at the earliest possible time.
The discussion comes at a time when the UAE has faced a series of attacks linked to the broader conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Several incidents have targeted civilian and commercial infrastructure in key locations such as Dubai, raising concerns about regional stability and global energy supply chains.
