Union Minister: Health care providers should promote diabetes research

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh called on young medical professionals to actively engage in diabetes research, emphasising the need to advance both scientific understanding and patient care in the field.

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences made the remarks while attending the inauguration of ‘MVCON 2026,’ a three-day national conference organised by the MV Hospital for Diabetes. During the event, he was honoured with the MV Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contributions to diabetes research.

Expressing gratitude, Dr Singh said he felt honoured to receive the award and acknowledged his connection to Tamil Nadu. He used the platform to encourage emerging doctors and healthcare professionals to play a greater role in addressing the growing burden of diabetes through research and innovation.

The conference brought together more than 1,000 participants, including doctors, researchers, and specialists focusing on diabetes management, diabetic foot care, and advanced wound treatment. The event featured workshops, hands-on training sessions in debridement, and discussions on modern wound care techniques.

Dr Viswanathan Vishnu Vijay, Chief Executive Officer of MV Hospital for Diabetes, described MVCON 2026 as a multidisciplinary initiative aimed at reflecting the evolving nature of diabetes care. He highlighted the importance of collaboration across medical specialities to improve patient outcomes, particularly in preventing complications such as diabetic foot, which require timely and coordinated intervention.

Overall, the event served as a platform to promote research, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in diabetes care, with a strong emphasis on the role of young professionals in shaping future advancements.
