Unsettling but not dangerous: Lara Dutta, who is stuck in Dubai with her kid, had tears in her eyes

Actor Lara Dutta has shared that she has been feeling anxious and overwhelmed while staying in Dubai amid the escalating US-Iran conflict. Accompanied by her daughter Saira, the actor said what was meant to be a routine work trip has turned into a distressing experience.

Lara described being at a studio on May 28 when she and others heard explosions overhead. She said they rushed outside and saw missiles being intercepted in the sky. Calling the past few days “stressful,” she admitted feeling nervous, especially with her daughter by her side. Her husband, former tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi, was away for work at the time.

She also spoke about hearing frequent loud blasts and seeing fighter jets flying above. Although she lives in a secure villa in a safe neighbourhood, she said the windows shake and doors rattle during the explosions, which has been unsettling. Despite this, she added that she has not personally felt unsafe.

Expressing appreciation for the authorities, Lara praised the United Arab Emirates government for ensuring residents feel protected, regardless of nationality. She said she and her family have felt cared for and secure under the circumstances.

However, she revealed that they are now exploring flight options to return to Mumbai, mainly because the children are particularly frightened. Though flights are limited, she mentioned airlines such as Etihad and Emirates as possible options. Holding back tears, she expressed admiration for ordinary citizens who continue working despite the uncertainty.

Lara also recalled being in India during tensions between India and Pakistan last year, saying she witnessed how authorities ensured public safety there as well. Concluding her message, she said no civilian should have to live in fear due to conflict and hoped for wiser decisions from leaders to restore stability.

In related reactions, Iranian-German actor Elnaaz Norouzi and Iranian actor Mandana Karimi have also spoken publicly about the ongoing unrest in the region and its personal impact.
