Well done, Team India! The PM congratulates the Men in Blue on winning the T20 World Cup


India retained their T20 World Cup title with a dominant 96-run win over New Zealand in Ahmedabad, delivering a commanding performance with both bat and ball. Batting first, India amassed 255/5 in 20 overs, the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. The massive score put New Zealand under immediate pressure and set the tone for a one-sided contest.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, praising their exceptional skill, determination and teamwork. He said the triumph reflected grit and consistency throughout the tournament and filled the nation with pride and celebration.

The final was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where India achieved multiple milestones. The team became the first side to successfully defend a Men’s T20 World Cup title, the only nation to win the trophy three times, and the first to lift it on home soil.

India’s innings was powered by an explosive batting display. Sanju Samson led the charge with 89, anchoring the innings with authority. Abhishek Sharma produced the fastest half-century of the tournament, reaching fifty in just 18 balls and shifting momentum decisively. Strong support came from Ishan Kishan, who scored 54 off 25 deliveries, while Shivam Dube added a quickfire 26 off eight balls to accelerate the finish.

India’s bowlers then dismantled the New Zealand lineup. Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets with a decisive spell, and Axar Patel picked up three more to choke the chase. New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, sealing a comprehensive victory for India.

President Droupadi Murmu described the win as a testament to India’s deep talent pool and sporting excellence, congratulating the players, management and support staff for the collective achievement. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the team’s consistency and fighting spirit, calling the triumph a proud national moment.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi commended the team’s performance and highlighted the contributions of Samson and Bumrah. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the victory was a matter of pride for the country and lauded captain Suryakumar Yadav for his leadership, acknowledging the combined effort that powered India to a historic championship win.
