What if streets were named after mosquitoes? KTR mocks the Hyderabad civic association

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Tuesday strongly criticised Hyderabad’s civic administration over the growing mosquito menace, accusing authorities of failing to address the worsening situation across the city.

Rao used sharp and sarcastic remarks to highlight what he described as administrative negligence. He suggested that several localities in Hyderabad be renamed “Domalaguda, Domalahills, Domalabad, Domalapool, and Domalagutta,” implying that mosquitoes had become the most dominant presence in these areas.

Taking aim at the state of governance, he remarked that in Hyderabad “only two are enjoying public governance, thieves and mosquitoes,” underscoring his allegation that civic authorities have been largely inactive in tackling the issue. He also pointed out that fogging operations, which are typically carried out to control mosquito populations, have become almost non-existent, leading to a sharp rise in mosquito density.

Rao further linked the increase in mosquitoes to a surge in viral fevers among residents, suggesting that the lack of preventive measures is directly impacting public health.

Adding to the criticism, BJP corporator Akula Srivani also raised concerns about the situation. She shared a video in which she is seen holding a mosquito racket and remarked that while mosquitoes appear to be “working 24/7” in the city, officials seem to be inactive. She also criticised the administration under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that Hyderabad has effectively been “handed over to mosquitoes.”

The remarks from political leaders come at a time when residents in multiple parts of Hyderabad have been reporting an increase in mosquito-related issues, along with concerns about sanitation and inadequate civic response. The growing complaints have intensified scrutiny of municipal efforts related to vector control and public health management.
