A crane collapsed at a workshop in Rangareddy, Telangana, leaving five dead and eleven injured

A tragic industrial accident unfolded in Telangana’s Rangareddy district when a crane collapsed at the NCC Central Workshop in Shankarpalli mandal, resulting in the deaths of five workers and leaving 11 others injured. The incident occurred in Mahalingapuram village under Chevella limits on April 27, during a spell of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that created hazardous conditions at the site.

According to officials, around 16 workers had taken shelter inside a nearby shed to escape the sudden downpour when the crane structure unexpectedly gave way and crashed onto the shed. The force of the collapse caused severe injuries, leading to the immediate death of some workers, while others were rushed to hospitals for emergency treatment. Several of the injured remain in critical condition, with reports indicating that some are in a coma.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Ali Hussain, Nagendra Singh, Sajeem, Mukesh Kumar, and Sonu Rajibi, all of whom were migrant workers from Bihar. The incident has raised serious concerns about on-site safety protocols, especially during adverse weather conditions, and whether adequate precautions were in place to prevent such a collapse.

Law enforcement officials, including Chevella Deputy Commissioner of Police Yogesh Gautam, have confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The probe will examine structural integrity, maintenance standards, and compliance with safety regulations, with authorities stating that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
