A deeply disturbing case has been reported from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 11-year-old twin daughters inside his home. The incident came to light in the early hours of Sunday after police received information and rushed to the scene, where the bodies of the two girls were found with fatal injuries.
According to the initial investigation, the accused father is believed to have killed the children by slitting their throats while they were inside a room in the house. Police officials, along with forensic teams, examined the scene and collected evidence to establish the sequence of events. The accused was taken into custody from the spot and is currently being interrogated, with authorities working to determine the exact motive behind the crime.
The wife of the accused, Reshma Chhetri, has made serious allegations about his behaviour, stating that he was an alcoholic and had a history of domestic violence. She claimed that he would frequently assault her, deny her food, and exercise controlling behaviour within the household. According to her, CCTV cameras had been installed throughout the house, and she was subjected to constant monitoring and restrictions, including being prevented from entering certain rooms.
She further stated that their relationship had been strained for years following their marriage in 2014. At one point, she left the house and stayed with her parents along with their son, while the daughters remained with the father. She said she later returned after several months because she could not stay away from her daughters. She also alleged that her husband had previously made statements indicating that he wanted to harm himself and the children.
Describing the events leading up to the incident, she said that the family had dinner together and everything appeared normal. Later, the father took the daughters into his room to sleep. Based on what she observed through CCTV footage, he remained awake for some time and was seen taking one of the girls to the bathroom before returning. After that, the lights were turned off, and there was no further activity, leading her to believe that everyone had gone to sleep. The crime is believed to have occurred during this period.
Police confirmed that the accused himself informed them about the incident. Senior officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway, including forensic examination and postmortem analysis of the victims. The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and legal proceedings have been initiated. Authorities have also indicated that they are examining all aspects of the case, including the allegations made by the wife, to build a complete understanding of the circumstances leading to the killings.
The incident has raised serious concerns about domestic violence, mental health, and family disputes escalating into extreme acts of violence.
