Amid the Iran War, Qatar suspends Pakistani nationals' visa-on-arrival

The Pakistan Embassy in Qatar has issued an advisory informing citizens about the temporary suspension of the visa-on-arrival facility for Pakistani nationals, citing the prevailing situation amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to the advisory, Pakistani travellers planning to visit Qatar will no longer be able to avail a visa-on-arrival and must obtain appropriate visas in advance to avoid any inconvenience. The embassy emphasised that all individuals should ensure proper documentation before departure, as entry requirements have been tightened under current circumstances.

The embassy further advised travellers to carefully verify all visa-related details through official sources before making travel arrangements. It also encouraged citizens to consult relevant Qatari authorities or authorised visa centres to ensure compliance with updated entry regulations, reiterating its commitment to assisting Pakistani nationals during this period.

The development comes against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions in the region, particularly involving Iran. In parallel, Pakistan has positioned itself diplomatically as a potential mediator in the ongoing crisis. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the country is prepared to facilitate meaningful dialogue between the United States and Iran and is willing to host negotiations, provided both parties agree.

This outreach follows reports of backchannel diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye aimed at de-escalating the conflict. Sharif also held discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressing concern over the worsening situation and urging restraint. Additionally, reports indicate that the United States has conveyed a proposed truce framework to Iran through Islamabad, highlighting Pakistan’s emerging role in diplomatic efforts surrounding the crisis.
