As a group travels to Pakistan, Trump says Iran is drafting an offer to meet US demands

Donald Trump said that Iran is preparing a proposal intended to address key US demands, as discussions between the two sides are expected to resume in Pakistan. Speaking in an interview, Trump indicated that an offer was being formulated but noted that its specifics were not yet known.

He reiterated that any potential agreement would need to include strict conditions, particularly requiring Iran to give up its enriched uranium and ensure uninterrupted oil transit through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. These demands reflect longstanding US concerns about nuclear activity and maritime security in the region.

US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Islamabad to engage with an Iranian delegation as part of efforts to revive negotiations. Reports also suggest that Abbas Araqchi is likely to be involved in discussions aimed at restarting dialogue between the two countries.

Trump also raised concerns about internal dynamics within Iran’s leadership, with US officials indicating that decision-making structures there may currently be fragmented. When asked about the individuals representing Iran in negotiations, he declined to provide details, stating only that the US was engaging with those presently in authority.

He further emphasised that the United States would continue its military blockade of Iranian ports until a satisfactory agreement is reached. While acknowledging that the conditions for lifting the blockade remain undefined, Trump indicated that the US position would depend on the nature and scope of Iran’s forthcoming proposal.
