A tense and emotionally charged situation unfolded in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur when a young man scaled an approximately 300-foot-tall mobile tower and threatened to end his life unless his girlfriend was brought to meet him. The episode took place on Wednesday near the southern gate of Muzaffarpur Junction, where the man, later identified as Anish Kumar, climbed the towering structure early in the morning. He remained at the top for several hours, refusing to come down, which drew the attention of a large number of onlookers who gathered at the site as the situation developed.
Officials revealed that Anish had returned to his hometown about a month earlier after working at a tile shop in Pune. On Tuesday evening, he had reportedly left his house with the intention of heading back to Pune. However, instead of continuing his journey, he chose to climb the mobile tower the following morning, setting the stage for the dramatic sequence of events.
In an unexpected move, Anish himself contacted the emergency helpline 112 at around 11 am, informing authorities about his position atop the tower and issuing a clear warning. He told the police that he would jump if his demand—to have his girlfriend brought to the location—was not fulfilled.
According to police officials, Anish is involved in a relationship with a woman from Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. He had allegedly been pressuring his family over phone calls to arrange a meeting with her, which appears to have contributed to his extreme actions.
As soon as authorities were alerted, police personnel and administrative officials rushed to the scene and initiated efforts to de-escalate the situation. They attempted to communicate with him and convince him to climb down safely, while also coordinating with his family members to assist in calming him.
