Before going missing in Assam, a woman sends an SOS; she is discovered in Shillong the following day

A 27-year-old woman who went missing from Guwahati in Assam was found unharmed a day later in Shillong, according to police officials. Before she became untraceable, she had reportedly sent a distress message to her family indicating that she was in danger, which triggered concern and a subsequent search operation.

The woman was located on Saturday after being spotted in a distressed and disoriented condition near Hotel Polo Towers in Shillong. A passerby who noticed her condition alerted local authorities, following which the police took her into their care and informed officials in Assam about the development.

According to Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills, the woman appeared confused and was unable to clearly explain how she had reached Shillong. He stated that she was sent for a medical examination as a precautionary measure, after which she would be brought to the police station for further questioning to understand the sequence of events.

Once information about her recovery was received, her family members, along with a police team from Assam, travelled to Shillong to bring her back home. Officials indicated that coordination between police units in both states helped ensure her safe recovery.

The incident began on Friday when the woman reportedly hired a cab from her residence in Guwahati to travel to another location within the city. During the journey, she allegedly sent a message to her family suggesting that she was in danger. When her family lost contact with her soon after, and her phone became unreachable, they filed a missing persons complaint with the police.

During the investigation, police traced her last known mobile location to an area near the Gauhati University campus. However, after that point, no further communication was received, and her whereabouts remained unknown until she was found in Shillong the following day.

Authorities have stated that the exact circumstances surrounding her disappearance and how she travelled across state lines remain unclear. Investigators are continuing to examine all aspects of the case, including her movements, possible interactions, and the contents of the distress message.

Officials also noted that the woman had been working as a school teacher in Assam until the end of March. The case remains under investigation as police attempt to piece together the full sequence of events leading to her disappearance and recovery.
