Exclusive: TCS Nashik case survivor's story of blackmail and sexual harassment

A sexual harassment case at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has brought forward serious allegations of coercion, exploitation, and abuse of trust within the workplace. According to the account of one of the complainants, what began as a seemingly helpful professional connection gradually escalated into a pattern of manipulation, intimidation, and alleged sexual violence.

The survivor stated that her interaction with the prime accused, Danish Shaikh, began in January 2022, when he approached her as a former college acquaintance and offered assistance in securing a job at the company where he was employed. Over time, their communication increased under the pretext of professional guidance, eventually developing into a personal rapport.

However, she alleges that by mid-2022, the nature of the relationship changed significantly. During one meeting, she claims that Danish forcibly initiated physical contact and then attempted to justify his actions by proposing marriage when she resisted. Despite her reluctance, she continued to remain in contact with him, largely due to the job opportunity he had promised.

Following his guidance, she eventually secured employment at the TCS Nashik office. Once she joined, her interactions with Danish continued within the workplace, often in the presence of two other individuals—Tausif Akhtar and HR manager Nida Khan—who are also named in the case.

According to her allegations, the situation began to deteriorate further during this period. She claimed that discussions during meetings increasingly shifted towards religion, with repeated attempts made to persuade her to convert. She described these interactions as persistent and targeted, creating discomfort and pressure.

The situation allegedly escalated in August 2024, when she stated that Danish took her to a hotel under misleading circumstances and forced her into a sexual relationship. She further alleged that Tausif later used knowledge of this incident to blackmail her, threatening to disclose details to her family unless she complied with his demands, which included further physical relations.

The survivor also described a prolonged period of harassment within the workplace, even after she rejected advances. She alleged repeated inappropriate physical contact, verbal abuse, and derogatory remarks about her religious identity. According to her statement, both accused individuals also threatened to leak private images on social media as a means of coercion and control, while continuing to pressure her regarding religious conversion.

In early 2026, the situation took another turn when she was contacted by someone claiming to be Danish’s wife. Upon verifying, she discovered that he was allegedly already married with two children. When confronted, she claimed that he denied this fact, despite evidence to the contrary. She further accused him of deceiving her about his marital status while continuing the relationship.

Following these allegations, Nashik Police registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to multiple arrests. Charges reportedly include sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and offences related to coercion. The case forms part of a broader probe into allegations raised by multiple women employees at the same workplace.

The incident has intensified scrutiny of workplace safety mechanisms and internal grievance systems, particularly regarding how such complaints are handled when raised over extended periods.
