Following discussions with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, the US confirms Rubio's visit to India

During his ongoing three-day visit to the United States, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, with a key highlight being his discussion with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House. The meeting was described as productive, with both sides reviewing the full spectrum of India–US relations and identifying areas for deeper cooperation.

The discussions focused on critical sectors that are increasingly central to the partnership, including trade, defence collaboration, and the supply of critical minerals. Both sides also emphasised the importance of the Quad framework, which continues to serve as a key platform for strategic coordination in the Indo-Pacific region. The engagement reflects a shared intent to expand cooperation not only in traditional security domains but also in emerging economic and technological areas.

Following the meeting, it was announced that Secretary Rubio is expected to visit New Delhi next month, signalling continued diplomatic momentum and the importance both countries attach to sustained high-level engagement. The upcoming visit is likely to build on the themes discussed in Washington and further consolidate cooperation across multiple sectors.

In addition to his meeting with Rubio, Misri also held separate discussions with senior US officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker. These interactions reaffirmed the strength of the India–US partnership and provided an opportunity to exchange views on pressing global and regional developments, particularly the evolving situation in West Asia.

Officials noted that the talks also explored practical avenues to enhance collaboration in areas such as defence, economic growth, and regional security. There was a shared emphasis on building resilient supply chains and advancing initiatives that contribute to mutual prosperity and stability.

The visit comes at a time when both countries are working to stabilise and deepen their relationship following a period of strain, including trade-related tensions. By engaging across multiple levels of leadership, the two sides appear focused on reinforcing strategic alignment while addressing areas of divergence through dialogue.

Overall, Misri’s visit underscores the continuing importance of the India–US partnership in shaping regional and global dynamics, with both nations seeking to expand cooperation in a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment.
