Delhi Police tracked and arrested 23-year-old accused Rahul Meena after he allegedly carried out two sexual assaults within a span of about 12 hours, first in Alwar and then in Delhi. The arrest was made using a combination of CCTV footage analysis, on-ground tracking, and a crucial lead provided by an auto-rickshaw driver.
The second crime, which proved fatal, occurred in Delhi’s Amar Colony, a residential area where the victim, a 22-year-old woman and daughter of an Indian Revenue Service officer, lived with her parents. Investigators revealed that the accused had previously worked as a domestic help in the same household until a few months earlier, which gave him familiarity with the premises.
Immediately after the incident in Delhi, police launched a large-scale manhunt, forming around 15 teams to trace the suspect. Officers began by examining CCTV footage from cameras installed at the entry gate of the residential complex and within the building. These recordings helped them determine the direction in which the accused fled after committing the crime.
Further analysis of surveillance footage from nearby areas allowed investigators to identify that the accused had boarded an auto-rickshaw shortly after leaving the scene. Police traced the vehicle and located the driver, who provided a key breakthrough by informing them that he had dropped the suspect off at a hotel. Acting swiftly on this information, police teams reached the location and apprehended the accused.
The CCTV footage also helped reconstruct the timeline of events. According to investigators, the accused was seen entering the residential complex in the early morning at approximately 6:28 am, wearing a yellow shirt and black pants. He entered the house around 6:39 am and exited between 7:22 and 7:30 am. Another clip showed him leaving the area after changing clothes, now wearing white pants and a full-sleeved yellow T-shirt, indicating an attempt to avoid identification.
Police investigations revealed that the Delhi incident took place just hours after the accused allegedly committed another sexual assault in Alwar. In that case, he reportedly entered the house of his 22-year-old neighbour around 10:30 pm, physically overpowered her, and sexually assaulted her. He allegedly strangled her, inflicted bite injuries, and threatened to kill her and her family if she reported the incident. An FIR was subsequently registered by Alwar Police based on her complaint.
Following this, the accused travelled to Delhi overnight and reached Amar Colony early the next morning. Using his prior association with the household, he allegedly entered the residence of his former employer and committed the assault that led to the victim’s death. When her parents returned home from the gym around 8 am, they found her severely injured and unresponsive, prompting immediate police involvement.
Investigators also uncovered details about the accused’s past conduct. During his time working for the family, he was reportedly involved in dishonest practices, including taking money for purchasing medicines but instead buying them on credit and keeping the cash. He was eventually dismissed from the job due to these activities. Police also stated that he had accumulated debts and borrowed money from various individuals in the locality.
By combining digital evidence from CCTV systems, coordinated field operations, and the critical input from the auto driver, police were able to quickly trace the suspect’s movements and carry out the arrest within hours of the Delhi crime. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to gather further evidence and establish the complete sequence of events across both locations.
