Singer Masoom Sharma is called up by the women's panel for using profanity at a college function

The Haryana State Commission for Women has summoned singer Masoom Sharma over allegations of using abusive language and displaying inappropriate behaviour during a live performance at DAV College in Dehradun. The Commission has directed him to appear in person at its Panchkula office on April 18 and submit a detailed explanation regarding the incident.

The panel stated that it has taken serious note of the matter, emphasising that such conduct, if established, could undermine the dignity and respect of women and violate expected standards of public behaviour. Acting under the Haryana State Commission for Women Act, 2012, it warned that failure to comply with the summons could lead to further action.

The controversy stems from a student union cultural programme where Sharma performed alongside Ajay Hooda. According to reports, after Pushkar Singh Dhami left the venue, Sharma allegedly used objectionable language on stage, making attendees, including students, staff, and police personnel, uncomfortable. It is also reported that Umesh Kumar attempted to intervene, but the performance continued.

Following the backlash, Sharma issued a public apology through a video, stating that he had been under mental stress due to personal issues and did not intend to offend anyone. He expressed regret over the incident and said hurting sentiments was never his intention.

This episode adds to a series of controversies involving the singer. In recent years, he has faced allegations ranging from harassment to criticism over content in his songs, including concerns about promoting gun culture. The current case is now under examination, with the Commission expected to determine further action based on his response and findings.
