The White House breaks its silence after ten US scientists have gone missing since 2023

Reports of multiple US-based scientists linked to sensitive national security programmes going missing or dying under unusual circumstances since 2023 have raised concerns within policy and security circles. The cases—estimated at nine or possibly ten individuals—are said to involve professionals connected to nuclear research, aerospace systems, and advanced fusion technology.

The incidents are reportedly associated with institutions such as Los Alamos National Laboratory, NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center—all of which are involved in high-security work related to nuclear deterrence, propulsion technologies, and next-generation energy systems.

According to available accounts, some individuals disappeared under unusual conditions, reportedly leaving behind personal belongings such as phones, wallets, and keys. Others are said to have died suddenly or in circumstances described as unclear or violent. The clustering of such cases around sensitive research environments has prompted speculation about possible espionage, targeted actions, or internal security lapses, although no official confirmation has established a common cause.

The issue reached the White House briefing room when Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about the matter. She stated that she had not yet consulted relevant agencies but indicated that the administration would review the situation if the reports were substantiated.

Some former officials have suggested that individuals working in high-security domains could be vulnerable targets, and that possibilities such as espionage or coercive actions cannot be ruled out without investigation. However, as of now, there has been no formal statement from US agencies confirming a coordinated pattern or linking the cases.

The situation has also drawn criticism regarding the pace and visibility of any official response, with observers questioning whether sufficient attention is being given to the issue. At present, the matter remains largely unverified in terms of a single underlying explanation, and further investigation would be required to determine whether these incidents are connected or coincidental.
