India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a series of high-level meetings with senior US officials during his three-day visit, focusing on strengthening defence cooperation, expanding trade ties, and discussing evolving geopolitical developments in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia.
During his engagements at the Pentagon, Misri met Under Secretaries Michael Duffey and Elbridge Colby, where discussions centred on deepening defence collaboration and maintaining momentum in strategic exchanges between the two countries. His interaction with Colby included a broad review of regional security dynamics, particularly in the Indo-Pacific and West Asia, reflecting shared concerns over stability and emerging challenges in these regions.
In talks with Duffey, the focus shifted to enhancing defence industrial cooperation, including strengthening technology partnerships and supply chain integration. Both sides explored ways to align their efforts with the broader framework of the India-US Major Defence Partnership, aiming to build more resilient and advanced defence capabilities through collaboration.
Misri also engaged with senior officials from the US Department of Commerce, including Under Secretaries Jeffrey Kessler and William Kimmitt. These discussions emphasised expanding cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, as well as improving commercial ties. A key area of focus was the development of secure and reliable supply chains, seen as essential for long-term economic and strategic partnerships.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to reinforce bilateral relations following a period of strain.
