While celebrating his birthday with pals, an Andhra engineer drowns in a waterfall in the United States

A birthday celebration in California turned into a tragic incident for Singireddy Sai Srihari Krishna, a 26-year-old software engineer from Andhra Pradesh’s Piridi village, who lost his life after being caught in a powerful whirlpool at a waterfall. What began as a joyful outing with friends ended in disaster when he entered the water and was pulled in by a strong current, ultimately leading to his drowning.

According to available details, Srihari Krishna had been working in the United States as a software engineer and was marking his birthday with a visit to a scenic waterfall. While stepping into the water, he became trapped in a whirlpool formed by the force of the current. The sudden and intense pull of the water left him unable to escape, highlighting the unpredictable and dangerous nature of such natural formations, even in seemingly calm environments.

This incident echoes a similar tragedy that occurred the previous year in California, where two individuals of Telugu origin also lost their lives in a water-related accident. Anoop Gankidi and Venkata Mukkaala, both aged 32, drowned in the Colorado River after entering the water from a rented pontoon boat. Reports indicated that neither of them was wearing a life jacket at the time.

The two men had anchored their boat along with a group and entered the river to cool off. However, they soon encountered difficulty and were unable to stay afloat. While one individual from the group managed to return to safety, Gankidi and Mukkaala disappeared beneath the surface. Despite rescue efforts, their bodies were recovered only after several minutes, and both were declared dead at a nearby medical facility.

These incidents underline the inherent risks associated with water bodies such as rivers and waterfalls, where strong currents, hidden whirlpools, and sudden depth changes can pose serious dangers. Even experienced swimmers can be caught off guard, especially in unfamiliar environments, making safety precautions like wearing life jackets and assessing water conditions critically important.

The loss of young professionals in such circumstances has also drawn attention to the broader issue of awareness and safety among visitors to natural water sites, particularly those unfamiliar with local conditions.
