A murder case in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, has been solved by police with the arrest of the accused, Sonu, in what investigators describe as a crime driven by blackmail and a complex web of personal relationships.
The victim, Gulafshan, was found dead in a field with multiple deep injuries, indicating a violent and sustained attack. Police later recovered the weapon used in the crime from a nearby area, strengthening the evidence against the accused.
According to investigators, Gulafshan had allegedly been blackmailing Sonu by threatening to circulate an explicit video involving his wife. The video was reportedly recorded earlier by Gulafshan’s husband, Monu, who was said to be in a relationship with Sonu’s wife. Police believe this chain of relationships and threats created escalating tension that ultimately led to the killing.
Gulafshan, who had been married to Monu for about two years, reportedly left her home on Friday and did not return. Her body was discovered the following morning in a nearby field. The crime scene indicated signs of a struggle, with injuries suggesting she attempted to defend herself during the attack.
During interrogation, Sonu allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that he was under pressure due to repeated demands for money and threats of public exposure. Police said he lured the victim to the location under a pretext and then attacked her with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal injuries.
The case was registered following a complaint by the victim’s father, and police launched an investigation that led to the arrest. Further legal proceedings are now underway as authorities continue to examine all aspects of the case.
