After an automobile crashes into Supriya Sule's car on a highway, she describes it as an awful experience

Supriya Sule on Saturday said a car rammed into her vehicle while she was travelling from Pune to Mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, adding that she and others travelling with her escaped unharmed because they were wearing seatbelts. The NCP(SP) leader described the incident as a frightening experience and urged people to take road safety more seriously.

The Baramati MP shared details of the incident in a post on social media, where she said another vehicle hit her car from the side due to alleged reckless driving. She also shared the registration number of the vehicle involved and highlighted the risks posed by overspeeding and negligent driving on highways.

“While driving from Pune to Mumbai today, I had an awful experience on the highway when vehicle GJ13CF5257 rammed into my car from the side due to reckless driving. Thankfully, everyone is safe,” Sule wrote in her post.

She said the accident served as an important reminder that even careful drivers remain vulnerable because of the actions of others on the road. “It’s not just about how you drive — reckless driving by others can also put lives at risk,” she said, recalling the moment the car struck her vehicle from the side.

Sule further stressed that such incidents demonstrate how overspeeding and negligent driving can endanger many lives within seconds. She appealed to motorists to wear seatbelts at all times, remain alert while driving and follow traffic rules responsibly. According to her, collective caution and discipline among drivers are necessary to make highways safer for everyone.

The NCP(SP) leader has frequently spoken about road safety in recent years, especially after the death of Cyrus Mistry in a road accident in September 2022. Following that tragedy, Sule had publicly stressed the importance of wearing rear seatbelts as well, saying the incident deeply affected her understanding of road safety practices.

At the time, she had said the accident involving Mistry reinforced critical lessons regarding the use of seatbelts by all passengers inside a vehicle. Sule had remarked that rear seatbelt usage in India was often ignored despite being equally important during high-speed travel.

The government later intensified enforcement of rules related to rear seatbelt use after Mistry’s death, with authorities repeatedly urging citizens to adopt safer driving habits and stricter compliance with traffic regulations.

Sule’s latest experience on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has once again drawn attention to concerns over speeding, rash driving and highway safety in India, particularly on busy expressways where accidents involving high-speed vehicles frequently lead to serious injuries and fatalities.
