Did he say "b***h"? Trump's heated moment when a journalist poses a stupid question

US President Donald Trump triggered fresh controversy after a heated exchange with Rachel Scott during a public appearance at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Trump had made a surprise visit to inspect restoration work being carried out at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool ahead of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. During the interaction, Scott questioned why the administration was prioritising beautification projects while tensions with Iran remained high and fuel prices continued to rise. Trump interrupted her question and defended the projects by saying he wanted to keep the country “beautiful and safe.” The exchange quickly escalated into a personal attack on the reporter. The incident soon drew widespread attention online and across American media.

Looking visibly irritated, Trump criticised Scott’s question and called it “stupid.” He then made remarks about “filth” and “dirt” in Washington before turning directly toward the journalist. “You can understand dirt better than I can, baby, but I don’t allow it,” Trump said during the exchange. He also referred to ABC News as “fake news” and described Scott as “a horror show.” Turning toward workers present at the site, he further stated that “a question like that is a disgrace to our country.” The confrontation was captured on video and circulated widely across social media platforms. Critics and supporters of the president reacted sharply to the remarks, reigniting debate over Trump’s repeated clashes with journalists.

The controversy intensified further after footage emerged showing Trump gesturing toward Scott while walking back to his presidential limousine. Although there was no clear audio, several social media users speculated that he appeared to mouth a derogatory insult directed at the reporter. The clip quickly went viral online, with many commentators accusing the president of using offensive language against a member of the press. Others argued that the video lacked sufficient clarity to confirm exactly what was said. Neither the White House nor ABC News immediately issued detailed comments regarding the footage. The incident nevertheless added to ongoing tensions between Trump and several major American media organisations. Trump has frequently accused mainstream outlets of biased coverage during both his previous and current presidencies.

The confrontation came just hours after Trump had spoken with Rachel Scott regarding renewed tensions between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. Referring to the latest military exchange between the two countries, Trump described the situation as “just a love tap.” The comments followed the sharpest confrontation since the fragile US-Iran ceasefire announced in April. Both countries accused each other of carrying out attacks near the strategically important waterway. While the US military insisted its actions were defensive, Iran accused Washington of striking civilian areas during the escalation. The continuing conflict around the Strait of Hormuz has raised global concerns because the route handles a major share of the world’s oil and gas supplies. Rising tensions have also contributed to volatility in international fuel prices.

This is not the first public clash between Trump and Rachel Scott. In December 2025, Trump also criticised the ABC News reporter after she questioned him about American military operations targeting boats allegedly carrying narcotics in the Caribbean. At the time, he described Scott as a “terrible” reporter during a separate media interaction. Trump’s confrontational relationship with journalists has remained a defining feature of his political style for years. Supporters often view his aggressive responses as resistance against hostile media coverage, while critics argue such behaviour undermines press freedom and public discourse. The latest exchange has once again placed the spotlight on the president’s treatment of journalists during official events. The controversy continues to generate strong reactions across political and media circles in the United States.
