Yogi Adityanath on Monday directed all departments and district administrations across Uttar Pradesh to remain on high alert amid the continuing heat wave conditions affecting large parts of the state.
During a review of the prevailing weather situation, the Chief Minister issued strict instructions to officials to closely monitor public health, electricity supply, drinking water availability and emergency response systems to minimise the impact of extreme temperatures on residents.
Adityanath instructed district magistrates, officials from the health department, electricity department and disaster relief agencies to stay vigilant and ensure uninterrupted coordination during the ongoing heat wave.
He specifically directed authorities to maintain a close watch on government hospitals, drinking water arrangements and power supply systems, especially in areas witnessing severe heat conditions.
The Chief Minister also ordered officials to ensure adequate medical arrangements for people suffering from heat stroke, dehydration and other heat-related illnesses.
Hospitals across the state were instructed to remain prepared with sufficient medical facilities, treatment arrangements and emergency support for affected patients.
Adityanath additionally asked all departments to remain alert regarding relief and rescue operations during the period of extreme weather.
Appealing directly to the public, the Chief Minister advised residents to remain cautious and adopt preventive measures to avoid heat-related health complications.
He urged people to take special care of children and elderly citizens, who are considered more vulnerable during prolonged exposure to extreme heat.
The Chief Minister also advised citizens to wear loose cotton or khadi clothing and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours.
He further instructed officials to ensure that workers, labourers and outdoor staff are protected from exhaustion, dehydration and heat stroke while carrying out their duties.
In addition, Adityanath warned departments against negligence that could result in fire incidents during the high-temperature period and asked officials to strengthen precautionary measures accordingly.
The directions come as several districts in Uttar Pradesh continue to experience intense summer temperatures and heat wave conditions, increasing pressure on public infrastructure, healthcare systems and electricity demand.
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s review meeting, Fakhrul Hasan Chand of the Samajwadi Party criticised the BJP government over electricity supply issues in the state.
He alleged that despite being in power in Uttar Pradesh for more than nine years and also heading the government at the Centre, the BJP had failed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply whenever electricity demand rises because of extreme weather conditions.
According to Chand, the government continues to make large promises regarding electricity supply for villages and cities, but relies more on presenting data and claims rather than delivering stable services on the ground.
He further accused the government of repeatedly blaming opposition parties, previous administrations and employees instead of improving the state’s power infrastructure.
The Samajwadi Party spokesperson also claimed that the BJP government has failed on multiple fronts and suggested that voters would respond politically during the 2027 Assembly elections.
The heat wave situation has continued to raise concerns across northern India, with state governments increasing preparedness measures to deal with rising temperatures, water shortages, health emergencies and pressure on electricity networks.
