Two motorcycle-borne robbers allegedly attacked and looted a man in Pathankot before later attempting to target him again moments after the initial robbery, leading to a dramatic confrontation that was captured on CCTV cameras and has since gone viral on social media.
According to the police and the victim’s statement, the incident took place when the man was returning home from his shop.
The victim alleged that two unidentified men riding a motorcycle suddenly stopped him on the road, forcibly removed the key from his motorcycle, and robbed him of his mobile phone along with Rs 5,000 in cash kept in his pocket.
After the robbery, the victim reportedly began walking towards his aunt’s residence located nearby.
However, according to the complaint, the same two accused allegedly attempted to approach and target him again while he was still on the road.
The victim said he recognised the robbers and decided to retaliate.
Police stated that the man picked up a brick lying near the roadside and hurled it at the accused from a distance.
The brick reportedly struck the motorcycle, causing one of the robbers to lose balance and fall from the vehicle.
Following this, the victim confronted the accused directly, leading to a physical scuffle between both sides on the road.
During the altercation, the robbers allegedly pulled out a “datar”, a sharp-edged traditional weapon, and threatened the victim while attempting to escape from the scene.
The victim again allegedly attacked the accused by throwing another brick, injuring them during the confrontation.
Despite sustaining injuries, the robbers reportedly managed to flee the spot after threatening the victim with the weapon.
The entire sequence of events, including the robbery, confrontation and scuffle, was recorded on nearby CCTV cameras.
The footage has now circulated widely across social media platforms, drawing significant public attention because of the unusual turn in which the victim fought back against the robbers.
Police officials said a case has been registered against the two accused based on the victim’s complaint.
Investigators are currently analysing CCTV footage and gathering additional evidence to identify and trace the suspects.
Officials have stated that efforts are underway to arrest the accused at the earliest, and further investigation into the case is continuing.
