The Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad on Saturday arrested an alleged associate of a key operative linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and recovered seven live cartridges from his possession during a raid in Rajasthan.
According to the ATS, the accused, Anil Kumar Jat, was allegedly in contact with gangster Sunil Kumar Meena, who is considered a close aide of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Investigators said Meena is currently absconding and is believed to have links with gangsters operating from Pakistan.
Officials said Jat, a resident of Jaipur Rural, was allegedly involved in arms trafficking and other gang-related activities. Acting on intelligence inputs, an ATS team led by Superintendent of Police Gyanchand Yadav detained him for questioning under the supervision of senior officers, including Additional DGP Dinesh MN and Inspector General Rajesh Singh.
During interrogation, Jat allegedly revealed that ammunition had been hidden inside his house. Following the disclosure, ATS officials,s along with Jaipur Rural Police,ce conducted a search operation at his residence and recovered seven live cartridges concealed beneath a staircase, according to a police statement.
Police have registered a case against Jat under the relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Investigators are now examining his alleged links with the Lawrence Bishnoi network, his suspected involvement in illegal arms trafficking, and the origin of the recovered ammunition.
The arrest comes amid continued crackdowns by security agencies on organised crime syndicates and cross-border criminal networks allegedly linked to gangsters operating from abroad. Authorities said further investigation is underway, and additional arrests or recoveries may follow based on the interrogation findings.
