Sandeep Pathak, a Rajya Sabha MP, has alleged misuse of state machinery after media reports claimed that two FIRs were registered against him in Punjab, even as he maintained that he has not received any official or informal communication regarding the cases.
Speaking publicly, Pathak said he learned about the FIRs only through television reports and is still awaiting a copy of the complaints before responding in detail. He stated that without access to the documents, he cannot comment on the nature of the allegations, but indicated that he would respond comprehensively if it is found that the cases were filed with political intent.
The development comes shortly after Pathak left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with several other Rajya Sabha MPs, a move that significantly altered the party’s strength in the Upper House and triggered sharp political reactions.
Sources have indicated that the FIRs were registered under non-bailable sections, though specific details of the charges have not been publicly disclosed. A police team reportedly visited Pathak’s residence in Delhi in connection with the matter, but he was not present at the time.
Leaders from the BJP have come out in support of Pathak, describing the reported action as politically motivated. Sunil Jakhar, the party’s Punjab unit president, criticised the timing of the cases, suggesting that allegations surfaced only after Pathak switched political allegiance.
Pathak has reiterated that his decision to leave AAP was based on ideological differences and disagreements over working style rather than personal reasons. As the situation develops, attention remains focused on the contents of the FIRs and whether formal legal proceedings will follow.
