Punjab is on high alert following a bomb near the Jalandhar BSF headquarters that targeted the Amritsar camp

Panic spread across parts of Punjab after two back-to-back explosions were reported near Border Security Force establishments in Jalandhar and Amritsar, including one incident close to the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar. Although no casualties or injuries have been reported so far, the incidents triggered major security concerns in the border state, prompting Punjab Police and central agencies to launch an extensive investigation while tightening security arrangements across sensitive areas.

The first incident took place near the BSF headquarters at BSF Chowk in Jalandhar when a parked scooter suddenly exploded in a busy locality. Eyewitnesses said the scooter burst into flames immediately after the explosion, causing panic among nearby residents, commuters and shopkeepers. People in the area reportedly ran for safety as thick smoke and debris spread across the road following the blast.

According to preliminary information, the scooter involved in the incident belonged to a delivery agent. Police later identified the rider as 22-year-old Gurpreet Singh. Family members told reporters that Gurpreet works as a parcel delivery worker and frequently visits the area as part of his daily routine. On Tuesday evening, when he reportedly approached his parked scooter, it suddenly caught fire and exploded, forcing him to flee from the spot in panic.

Hours later, another explosion occurred in the Khasa area of Amritsar outside an Army camp situated near BSF installations. Preliminary suspicion suggests that a motorcycle-borne attacker may have hurled a grenade at the site before escaping. The area where the blast occurred lies around 15 kilometres away from the Attari-Wagah international border, increasing concerns about possible cross-border security implications.

Amritsar Rural Police Superintendent Aditya Warrier confirmed that the second blast occurred between 10:30 pm and 11 pm near the Army camp. He stated that police personnel and Army officials immediately rushed to the scene after the explosion. According to him, forensic experts were deployed at the location and investigators are examining all possible aspects of the incident to determine the exact cause and nature of the blast.

Exclusive CCTV footage from the Jalandhar incident reportedly captured the moment the scooter exploded. The visuals showed flames erupting instantly while fragments and debris scattered across the road. A man standing close to the scooter was seen running away immediately after the blast occurred. Investigators believe some of the scattered debris may have been parts of the scooter itself.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur urged caution and stated that authorities were still in the early stages of investigation. According to her, the immediate facts suggested that a parked scooter had caught fire, but police were still verifying the precise sequence of events. She confirmed that both the scooter rider and another individual connected to the incident are being questioned by investigators.

Kaur further stated that the scooter driver was fully cooperating with the investigation and had informed police that the vehicle suddenly caught fire without warning. Responding to questions regarding whether the explosion could be linked to a larger conspiracy, she said authorities were investigating from all possible angles and that no conclusion could be drawn at this stage.

Police teams, forensic experts, bomb disposal units and dog squads were deployed at the Jalandhar site as part of the investigation process. Officials are examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to reconstruct events before and after the blast and determine whether any suspicious activity occurred near the scooter prior to the explosion.

The incidents have also triggered a political confrontation in Punjab. Opposition parties criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government over the blasts and questioned the state’s law-and-order situation. Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring described the explosion near the BSF headquarters as deeply alarming and argued that such incidents raise serious national security concerns because Punjab is a sensitive border state.

In a statement posted on social media, Warring criticised both the Punjab government and the Centre, accusing them of prioritising political battles instead of public safety. He stated that people of Punjab deserved security and stability rather than political confrontation and public spectacle.

Authorities have not officially confirmed the exact nature of either explosion so far, and investigators are continuing to examine whether the incidents were accidental, criminal, or linked to a broader security threat. Police officials stated that the exact cause behind the explosions remains under investigation and that more information will be shared once forensic and technical analysis is completed.
