Rumors being propagated by enemies, Mojtaba Khamenei in good health, managing affairs: Iran

Speculation surrounding the fate of Mojtaba Khamenei intensified earlier this year after his prolonged absence from public view, prompting widespread rumours about his health and even unverified claims of his death. The uncertainty began in the second week of March when US President Donald Trump remarked in an interview that he was unsure whether Khamenei was still alive, further amplifying global attention on the issue.

The speculation was fuelled by Khamenei’s disappearance from public appearances following joint military strikes carried out by Israel and the United States, which reportedly killed his father, Ali Khamenei, along with other family members. In the weeks that followed, Iranian officials provided limited and often vague updates, stating only that Mojtaba Khamenei had been injured, without offering further details about his condition or location.

The lack of clarity, combined with reports that senior figures such as President Masoud Pezeshkian had not been permitted to meet him, deepened speculation about possible internal divisions within Iran’s leadership, including tensions involving the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. These developments contributed to growing uncertainty about both his health and the broader political situation within Iran.

Further statements from US officials added to the narrative. Trump later suggested that Khamenei might still be alive but injured, while Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly stated that he believed Khamenei was wounded and possibly disfigured. These remarks kept the issue in focus internationally, despite the absence of confirmed information from Iranian authorities at the time.

However, Iranian officials have now moved to dispel the rumours. Representatives from Khamenei’s office stated that he is “fully healthy” and actively engaged in leadership responsibilities, dismissing earlier claims as attempts by adversaries to provoke reactions and create instability. The clarification follows a recent written statement attributed to Khamenei, in which he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to defending its nuclear and missile capabilities, framing them as essential national assets.

Overall, the episode reflects how limited information, geopolitical tensions, and competing narratives can quickly generate widespread speculation, particularly in high-stakes situations involving national leadership and ongoing conflict.
