Security has been significantly tightened across Delhi after intelligence agencies warned of possible terror attacks involving improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at key locations in the national capital. According to sources, the alert prompted the Delhi Police to intensify surveillance, launch checking drives, and strengthen deployment across sensitive and high-footfall areas.
Following the warning, security arrangements were enhanced outside the Delhi BJP state office and the BJP national headquarters, where police teams conducted inspections and installed additional barricading. Officials also increased monitoring around strategic installations and crowded public locations amid fears that terrorists could target both civilians and deployed security personnel.
The alert comes weeks after the Delhi Police Special Cell busted a terror-linked module allegedly connected to Shahzad Bhatti, who investigators claim is associated with Pakistan’s ISI. Nine accused were arrested in the operation, and interrogation reportedly revealed plans for targeted attacks and shootings in Delhi.
According to sources, members of the module allegedly conducted reconnaissance of a prominent temple in Delhi and shared videos of the location with handlers based in Pakistan. Investigators believe the plan involved opening fire on police and paramilitary personnel deployed at the religious site to create panic and large-scale chaos in the area.
Officials further claimed that the module planned a grenade attack on a popular dhaba located along the Delhi–Sonipat highway, an area known for heavy public footfall. Investigators also found that a military camp in Hisar had allegedly been surveyed and its footage shared with handlers across the border. Some police stations in Uttar Pradesh were also reportedly listed as possible targets.
The fresh intelligence warning has revived concerns following last year’s deadly terror incident near Red Fort, where a car blast killed 15 people and injured several others. Investigators had later linked the attack to a Jaish-e-Mohammed-connected “white-collar terror module” allegedly involving radicalised professionals and students associated with Al Falah University in Faridabad. Security agencies are now maintaining heightened vigilance across Delhi to prevent any potential attack.
