A nine-year-old child was fatally shot in Kasganj following a minor refusal during a family function, turning what was meant to be a celebratory naming ceremony into a shocking incident of violence that has drawn serious concern from authorities.
The incident took place in Yakutganj village under the Sahawar police station area, where relatives and local residents had gathered at the boy’s home for the ceremony. According to statements from family members, the accused—identified as Dhanesh Yadav—was consuming alcohol during the gathering and asked the child to bring water to mix with it. When the boy declined, the situation escalated abruptly.
Police said the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, reacted violently and fired at the child, hitting him in the abdomen. The sudden gunfire caused panic among those present, with family members rushing the injured boy to a local hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to Aligarh for advanced treatment, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, a case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family. The accused initially fled the scene but was later apprehended by police near a canal bridge in the area. Authorities also confirmed the recovery of the weapon used in the crime.
Officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Bharti, stated that legal proceedings are underway and the accused is being processed for judicial custody. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, though initial findings point to an impulsive act triggered by intoxication and anger.
The case has highlighted concerns over the presence of firearms and alcohol misuse in social settings, particularly where such factors can quickly escalate into irreversible violence.
