Will Trump receive the Nobel Peace Prize at last? There could be 287 nominees, including the US president

US President Donald Trump is expected to be among the nominees for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, with leaders from Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan publicly stating that they have put forward his name. These nominations reportedly cite his diplomatic efforts and attempts to mediate or resolve ongoing international conflicts, bringing renewed attention to his long-standing interest in the award.

According to data released by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, a total of 287 nominations have been received for the 2026 prize, including 208 individuals and 79 organisations. The committee’s secretary, Kristian Berg Harpviken, noted that the list of nominees changes significantly each year, reflecting a continuous influx of new candidates and initiatives. He also emphasised that the relevance of the Peace Prize remains particularly strong in the current global climate, where numerous efforts toward conflict resolution and humanitarian work are ongoing.

Although the complete list of nominees is kept confidential for 50 years, some names have entered the public domain through voluntary disclosures by those who submitted nominations. Among those reported to have been nominated are Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, and Moldovan President Maia Sandu. Additionally, US Senator Lisa Murkowski and Greenlandic-Danish lawmaker Aaja Chemnitz have also been nominated for their work in fostering cooperation and stability in the Arctic region, following a nomination by Norwegian legislator Lars Haltbrekken.

The committee also expressed concern about the health of Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Peace Prize winner, who remains imprisoned in Iran. Reports indicate that her condition has deteriorated following a recent heart attack, prompting calls for her release so she can receive appropriate medical care.

The final decision on the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on October 9, with the official award ceremony set to take place on December 10 in Oslo, Norway.
