A tragic incident in Gwalior has left two families devastated after a newly married couple allegedly died by suicide within just two days of each other. The deaths have shocked relatives and local residents, while police have launched a detailed investigation to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.
According to police officials, 23-year-old Jyoti Tomar, also known as Megha, allegedly died by suicide at her parental home located in the Murar area of Gwalior on May 20.
Jyoti had married Siddharth Kandil, aged 26, on April 25 through an arranged marriage ceremony attended by both families.
Police stated that shortly after the wedding, Jyoti went to stay at her maternal home in the Murar locality on May 1. Authorities have not yet clarified the exact reasons behind her stay at her parents’ residence following the marriage.
According to investigators, Jyoti allegedly hanged herself using a dupatta at her family home on May 20.
The incident reportedly left both families shocked and struggling to understand what may have caused her to take the extreme step.
Two days later, on May 22, Siddharth Kandil also allegedly died by suicide.
Police said Siddharth hanged himself inside the bathroom of his residence located in the Pinto Park area of Gwalior after reportedly becoming deeply disturbed by the news of his wife’s death.
Atul Soni, Area City Superintendent of Police (CSP), stated that Siddharth had earlier interacted with police officials following Jyoti’s death and appeared emotionally distressed and mentally disturbed during the conversation.
“Both families are unable to explain the reasons behind the suicides,” the police officer said while speaking about the ongoing investigation.
According to police, neither Jyoti’s family nor Siddharth’s family has so far made allegations against each other in connection with the deaths.
Officials stated that separate cases have been registered and investigations into both incidents are currently underway.
Investigators are now examining various forms of technical and digital evidence in an attempt to determine what may have happened in the days leading up to the suicides.
Police said they are analysing the couple’s mobile phones, call records, social media accounts, chats, and other electronic data to understand whether any personal disputes, emotional distress, or external pressures may have contributed to the incident.
Authorities are also expected to question relatives, friends, and individuals close to the couple in order to reconstruct the sequence of events following the marriage.
The back-to-back deaths of the newly married couple have deeply shocked people in the area, especially because the marriage had taken place less than a month before the incident.
As the investigation continues, police are attempting to establish whether there were hidden personal struggles, relationship issues, or other circumstances that may explain the tragic deaths that occurred within such a short span of time.
