A disturbing case involving alleged online harassment and violation of privacy has emerged from Bihar's Katihar district, where police have arrested a man accused of uploading his wife's private and objectionable photographs and videos on social media. Investigators allege that the accused acted out of suspicion regarding his wife's character and used the content in an attempt to publicly defame her.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Dayanand Kumar, was taken into custody after his wife lodged a formal complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Katihar. In her complaint, she alleged that her husband had repeatedly uploaded her private photos and videos on social media platforms without her consent, causing severe emotional distress and damage to her reputation.
The investigation revealed that Dayanand Kumar married the complainant in 2023. However, police said the relationship gradually became strained as he allegedly developed suspicions that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair. According to investigators, he frequently questioned her activities and movements, particularly when she visited her parental home.
Police stated that these suspicions eventually escalated into a pattern of harassment. Driven by doubts regarding his wife's loyalty, Dayanand allegedly began posting her private and objectionable photographs and videos on social media. Investigators believe the uploads were intended to shame and defame her publicly.
Following the filing of the complaint, police launched an investigation into the allegations. However, authorities said the accused remained absconding for several months, making it difficult to apprehend him. During this period, the complainant reportedly stayed at her parental home while police teams conducted repeated raids and searches in an effort to trace his whereabouts.
After receiving specific information about his location, the police finally succeeded in arresting him. The operation brought an end to a lengthy search and enabled investigators to begin questioning him regarding the allegations.
During interrogation, Dayanand reportedly admitted to uploading the photographs and videos.
