After CBFC changes violent scenes, Alia Bhatt's Alpha receives a U/A 16+ certificate

Actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s upcoming spy thriller Alpha has been cleared for theatrical release by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). As per the certification issued on June 29, 2026, the Hindi film, which includes English subtitles, received a U/A 16+ rating after the makers carried out a few changes recommended by the board.

The CBFC’s suggested edits mainly focused on scenes involving violence and certain language. Instead of deleting footage, the board asked for specific visuals to be replaced or modified. A scene depicting multiple stabbings was softened through alternate shots, and an objectionable word was removed from the dialogue.

According to the certification details, one visual appearing at 25 minutes and 49 seconds was replaced. Another sequence at 1 hour, 36 minutes and 41 seconds involving repeated stabbing was toned down. A profanity used at 35 minutes and 53 seconds was removed, while a separate visual at 38 minutes and 12 seconds was altered.

Apart from these content-related changes, the CBFC directed the filmmakers to update the opening disclaimer, add English subtitles to all songs, and include anti-alcohol warning messages wherever required. The board also asked the production team to ensure that all mandatory certification cards and end-credit information complied with existing regulations.

Additionally, the makers were required to submit the film’s dialogue script, provide parental consent documentation for a child actor featured in the film, and confirm the final runtime before certification was granted.

After incorporating all the revisions, Alpha received approval with a final runtime of 140 minutes and 48 seconds, which is just under two hours and twenty-one minutes.

Produced by Yash Raj Films, Alpha features Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. The film is the latest entry in the expanding YRF Spy Universe and has now completed all certification requirements ahead of its theatrical release.
