A young woman died after allegedly attempting a natural childbirth at home with guidance reportedly taken from YouTube videos instead of seeking medical assistance at a hospital, leading authorities to initiate an investigation into the incident.
The woman, identified as Sasikala, was the wife of Karthik and lived in Thalavaypalayam near Uthukuli. The couple had a four-year-old daughter, and Sasikala was expecting their second child.
According to available information, the family chose to proceed with a home birth rather than opt for delivery at a medical facility.
On June 24, Sasikala delivered a baby girl at home. However, she reportedly experienced severe postpartum bleeding that could not be controlled. She was then taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai for treatment.
As her condition worsened, she was later transferred to a private hospital in Coimbatore for specialised medical care. Despite treatment, she died at the hospital.
Following the incident, the District Health Department launched an inquiry to examine the circumstances surrounding the delivery and subsequent death. The Uthukuli Police have also begun a separate investigation into the matter.
